The Jane Faner Sweers Faith Foundation Series

In October 2000, the Jane Faner Sweers Faith Foundation Series was established for the purpose of providing a dynamic Christian witness to the people of the First Presbyterian Church of Flint and the surrounding community. Both through Christian speakers and representatives of the arts, the Faith Foundation Series strives to make persons more aware of the incarnate love of Jesus Christ and the blessings of the walk of faith. In months and years to come, this series will be a catalyst for bringing a continuing message of hope to this community and inspiration to the people of God.

Dr. McCarty has had extensive classroom teaching experience in both inner city and suburban schools in the East and Midwest. He has taught at four major universities. He has written such books as The Daily Journal of Kindness: A Guide for Creating Your Own Kindness Revolution, Acts of Kindness, Chicken Soup for the Grandparent's Soul: Stories to Open the Hearts and Rekindle the Spirits of Grandparents, and A 4th Course of Chicken Soup for the Soul: 101 More Stories to Open the Heart and Rekindle the Spirit. These books were all written together with his wife Meladee. There will be several book selections available after the program. Meladee and Hanoch have four grown children Shayna, Ethan, MacAllister and Stephanie and one grandchild Rand Avery Hinds.

This presentation will focus on "Living Your Kindness: Becoming a Chicken Soup Person for Others". Which is an exploration of what might be called "daily, systematic, practical kindness" or how to build kindness into your life in the way you are with all others, in the way you treat yourself, in the way to affect the 'personal world' you inhabit and the larger world we all inhabit. All of his presentations are high energy and include lots of participant involvement, appropriate humor, and tender Chicken Soup for the Soul stories.
