Joining fpcf

God is doing amazing things at the First Presbyterian Church of Flint—have you noticed?

From our vibrant and rich Sunday worship, to the explosive growth in our children’s ministry, to the welcoming and transformative work of our PIPE youth ministry, to the intentional spiritual formation of our adults, and to the ongoing acts of mercy and service that our church performs each week, God’s Spirit is moving and active in our congregation, leading us along in the way of Jesus.

Maybe you have been coming for a while, and maybe you have been attending only for a few weeks. Regardless of how long you’ve been a part of this church’s ministries, you are encouraged to take a step of faith and join our congregation.

We don’t want you to join the church because we care about numbers or dollars or because we are obsessed with statistical growth. Rather, we want you to join because we are so excited about the direction in which God is leading us and we want you to be a part of it. We need your voice on our Session (Elders), our Deacon Team, or our Trustees (finance/building). We need your partnership in identifying new opportunities for us to put our faith into practice in Flint. We need your ideas, your innovations, and your input as we continue to bear witness to Jesus Christ in Flint.

As a member church of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), there are three ways to join our congregation.

1. Joining by Letter of Transfer

If you are currently a member of a Christian church, you may enter into church membership by requesting a letter or certificate of transfer from your prior congregation. This is the option used most by members who relocate to the Flint area. The Church Office can assist you in initiating this transfer.

2. Joining by Reaffirmation of Faith

If you are not currently active in the life of a Christian church, but you have previously been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are welcome to join our congregation by reaffirming your Christian faith. This is typically done in worship in the Fall during a special liturgy that welcomes all new members to our congregation.

3. Joining by Public Profession of Faith and Baptism

If you have not been baptized, then you may join our congregation by professing the Christian faith and by undergoing Christian baptism. Note: In addition to the New Members' Class in the Fall, you will need to meet with the pastors to discuss the meaning and theology of baptism.
