Choirs and Choral Groups
The Chancel Choir leads congregational prayer and song and provides choral anthems and responses for the weekly 9:30 am worship service. The Chancel Choir presents music in an impressive variety of styles and aspires to the highest level of the sacred choral art. The spiritual life of the choir is nurtured by encountering the Word in song, through weekly prayers and through annual retreats. The choir provides a warm and caring community for its members. No audition is required to sing with the Chancel Choir. Requirements for the participation are a well-focused voice that blends, some ability to read music and, most importantly, consistency of attendance at rehearsals and worship. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.. The choir meets in the 2nd floor music suite. Child care is available by reservation.

First Brass is the brass and percussion ensemble of First Presbyterian Church. A professional ensemble, First Brass plays for festival worship services and special events at the church. The ensemble explores the vast repertoire of sacred music conceived for brass, percussion and organ. Members are selected from among the region’s finest professional musicians. First Brass is sustained in part by church budget and in part by financial gifts from those who support the role of instrumental music as a means of spiritual formation.
The FPC Festival Orchestra is a fully professional orchestra established by the music and fine arts ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Flint. The orchestra is intended to make possible the presentation of major sacred repertoire in fully-realized form. Rather than “bringing the concert hall into the sanctuary,” the presentations of the orchestra and choir are an effort to reclaim from the concert hall music that was intended to be sung, played and heard in the church. Orchestra personnel are drawn from the region’s finest professional musicians. The orchestra is sustained in part by church budget and in part by financial gifts from those who support the role of music as a means of spiritual formation.
