PCUSA asks FPC to help guide hymnal project
The office of Worship of the PCUSA has begun a review of Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs to be recommended for inclusion in future hymnals. First Presbyterian Church has been asked to serve as something of a "hymnal focus group" during this project. We will represent congregations of our size, demographic and worship tradition. Over the next few years, we will receive regular requests to sing and give reaction to new hymns, psalm paraphrases and choruses in our worship service. We will endeavor to use the materials as we receive them. Your verbal or written feedback is desired. You can speak to one of the worship leaders or email your comments to .
Participation in the project will ask something of us - a willingness to try new things; a thoughtful consideration of how musical material might serve worship in congregations such as ours; and helpful responses to the PCUSA.
Participation will also give us something - a first look at the many different ways in which God is worshiped in our churches and a deeper understanding of the ways in which singing shapes our understanding and faith.
