Our Mission

The First Presbyterian Church is engaged by Christ’s love to invite, worship, nurture, and serve.

Our Vision

We want the First Presbyterian Church to be a community of disciples - led by Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit - journeying together as we practice life in the kingdom of God.

Our congregation has 977 official members with an active congregation of between 300-400 persons, as defined by at least monthly attendance.

Our church is led by an elected team of elders. The Session divides its work into eleven areas, each with its own committee: worship, faith formation, shalom (peacemaking/missions), hospitality, koinonia (fellowship), caring, serving, personnel, facilities, and finances. .

Our annual budget is $1.69M and is funded by both member contributions (55%) and investment income (45%).

Summary

The First Presbyterian Church of Flint is a mid-size, intergenerational congregation who gathers for worship, faith formation, and local mission in the heart of downtown Flint, Michigan. We are an historic congregation formed in the mid-18th century and over the past 180+ years, we have grown into a vibrant and eclectic family of faith from all over Genesee County. Our church is served by two, full-time ordained clergy: The Rev. Dr. Joseph Novak (senior pastor) and The Rev. Paul Ytterock (associate pastor). Joining them in side-by-side ministry are numerous other staff and volunteer members who work to ensure that our congregation is bearing faithful witness to Jesus Christ as we are engaged in concrete acts of local ministry and mission.

We are searching for our next, full-time Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. The ideal candidate will be someone who can create and maintain a space of belonging for our youth and young adults —a place even for those who have been rejected, wounded, and disheartened by others before. We hope your love for God and other people overflows from your very being so that weaving your life into the lives of families here is natural and necessary. We hope you can’t stay away from high school football games, soccer matches, art shows, piano recitals, and milkshakes and coffee from our favorite local shops. We hope your holistic approach to family ministry will naturally include people of all ages, members of FPCF and non-FPCF community members alike, and a deep working relationship with current staff and leadership. May wonder and curiosity lead your actions as you continue to learn and grow in this position—as you direct our youth and young adults in the ways of Jesus and help to shape their faith for now and for the future.
